FAQ #1

versaillesadness:

How old is the Versailles? How long did it take to build it?

The first version of Versailles was built by Louis XIII in 1623, it was not the palace that we know but a hunting lodge. Under the reign of Louis XIV the construction of the current palace started in 1660. The palace knew many transformations trough ages and got its final form in 1871.

When did the royals stop living in the castle and why? When did it become a museum? Btw, I adore your blog❤️  (Rivettivogue)

The royals lived in Versailles from 1682 to 1789 so 107 years. When the French Revolution broke out in 1789 the Royal Family was forced to go back to Paris, which was the former capital city of France.

Versailles became officialy a museum in 1837 under the reign of Louis-Philippe.

Is Versailles close to Paris? I am going to visit Paris in 15 days and I really want to see Versailles Palace but I’m not sure if it would be easy to go there

You need about 30 minutes to go to Versailles from Paris. From the Gare Montparnasse you have to take the RER C and you stop at Versailles Chantiers.

If you could live in any era, which would you choose? 😊

I guess i would like to live during the 18th Century but as a noble of course. Being a simple citizen at that time was not a dream life ! Maybe I’d also like to lve in an era which doesn’t exist, I mean a future era.
