If we could stop pitting successful women against each other that would be great thanks. Both videos are brilliantly artistic and well done and there is no reason they have to be in competition with each other. And seeing as how all women involved here are feminists, I dont think any of them would appreciate this post.
Becky sit your wack ass down. Don’t think I didn’t notice you erased part of my post. My blog has and will continue to celebrate black excellence. It’s not a competition because you can’t compete, and neither could Taylor. The release of “Feeling Myself” came after a night of glorifying white women on the Billboard music awards, to the exclusion of very talented artists like Nicki Minaj. Every time a black girl comes out trying to celebrate our successes, yall feel the need to come over spouting some faux-feminist bullshit that’s at worse, to the erasure of us, or at best, asking us to fall back. Nicki and Beyonce had a successful launch of a video, one that did not require the same level of promotion or “star power” that Taylor’s did, one that was wildly more diverse in ethnic representation, and one that received a hell of a lot of attention yesterday.
Take your Intro to Women Studies feminism and please have a seat.
